Synopsis

Get ready for Joe DiPietro's "love-happy" musical revue as you've never seen it before! Watch as seven actors perform over twenty characters in the tricky tango known as the modern day mating dance. We will explore sex, dating, marriage, parenthood, less sex... and other various trials and tribulations on the rocky path of romance. You'll be laughing and singing all the way home from this hip, funny, and witty escapade.

  Joe DiPietro (Book/Lyrics)

  Jimmy Roberts (Music)

Off-Broadway: The Thing About Men (2004 Outer Critics Circle Award, Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical), also written with Joe DiPietro; songs for A...My Name Is Still Alice; Pets!; incidental music for Joe DiPietro's Over the River and Through the Woods; and The Velveteen Rabbit, a children's musical. TV: musical theme for "Theater Talk" (PBS). I Love You, You're Perfect., in its record-breaking second decade at the Westside, has now been seen on five continents. Upcoming musical: The Truth About Light, written with Warner Brown, librettist/lyricist (London, 2007). Mr. Roberts is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied piano with Constance Keene. [top]

 

  Kelly Todd (Director/Choreographer)

Kelly Todd, a long-time performer, graduated from UCLA's school of Theatre, Film, and Television. She was the resident choreographer for the Children's Civic Light Opera for 14 years, and choreographed over 20 productions including Crazy For You, Damn Yankees, and 42nd Street. She taught dance, and drama at Washington Preparatory High School in South Central Los Angeles for three years where she choreographed nearly 200 pieces including Guys and Dolls, and Dreamgirls. Kelly was the lighting designer for A Shrine to Junior at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood for which she received a 2002 NAACP theatre award nomination. In New York City, she performed in and choreographed Off-Broadway productions and trained at the Broadway Dance Center for two years. Her more recent projects at The Chance have been as choreographer of Cabaret (Back Stage West Critic's Pick) and Into The Woods (Back Stage West Critic's Pick) and as director/ choreographer of The World Goes 'Round and Grand Night for Singing.   Dean Anderson (Musical Director, Violin)

Dean is excited to be music directing his 5th musical at The Chance Theater! Since 2003, he has participated in various roles in addition to music directing, including singing, acting, sound design, music composition, and much more! He is currently the Music Director and Conductor of the Orange County Symphony. He would like to thank everyone at the Chance for their support and his family and friends who have made life happy and fulfilling! [top]
 

  Masako Tobaru (Set Designer)

Masako has been a proud company member for 2 years. In 2006, she designed the sets for Anaheim Home Companion, The Lying Kind, The Eight: Reindeer Monologues, with their eyes (LA Times Critic's Choice) and Never In My Lifetime (BSW Critic's Pick) and previously designed lighting for The Eight, A Christmas Story, The Rover, Closer Than Ever (LA Times Critic's Pick), It's A Wonderful Life, and Grand Night for Singing. She has also stage managed Into The Woods (BSW Critic's Pick), The Last 5 Years, Cabaret (BSW Critic's Pick), and The Eight (OC Weekly Theater Award Nominee - Best Production). Elsewhere, she has designed lighting for Working, Seussical, the Musical, Joyful Noise, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, and received a Kennedy Center award nomination for her lighting design for Medea at Concordia University, Irvine, where she received her BA in Theatre and Communications. Masako would like to thank her family for their support, and her friends for their understanding. blank   Jeff Brewer (Lighting Designer)

Jeff Brewer is excited to be making his debut with The Chance Theater. Originally from Dallas, he has designed lighting for productions from the East Coast to the West Coast and in between. In addition to designing lighting for theatre, he also designs for dance, special events, and industrial shows. Some of his favorite designs include The Grapes of Wrath, My Life with the Kringle Kult, Down the Road, Jesus Christ Superstar, Jeffrey, Pentecost, Training Wisteria, and What's Inside Here. Jeff received his MFA in Lighting Design from Boston University's College of Fine Arts in 2004. [top]
 

blank   Sunita Mager (Costume Designer)

Sunita was born and raised in CA until she was 8 years old and then moved to Hamburg, Germany. Through having Ballet performances as a young girl, she got a view of life on stage and also got to know the theatre atmosphere. In 12th grade, she attended a Fashion Design class where she learned the basics of form, color and design. After school, she moved to Frankfurt, Germany to work as a Flight attendant for the German Lufthansa. She did that for 6 years and visited a Fashion School for 2 years. Since August 2006, she's been living in the OC and work for a Promotion and Marketing Firm. [top]

 

  Dave Mickey (Sound Designer)

Recently Dave was the winner of the Robert E. Cohen Sound Achievement Award, a national award in sound design sponsored by USITT. Since 1995 Dave has been a theater sound, interactive, and lighting designer in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. Dave was Sr. Audio Tech for Caltech for 6 years, before returning to school to start his MFA in Sound Design at CalArts. At CalArts Dave studied sound design and interactive design. While working as an assistant exhibit designer for the Nixon Library. Dave has been a guest lecturer on the topics of lighting and sound design, and technology. Designed and installed complete sound systems, smart systems, interactive systems and lighting systems. Worked as a sound engineer for two shows in the Edinburgh Fringe Scotland, and music CDs. Dave was the founder of Mickey Designs/MTSaS a sound, interactive,  lighting theater design and sales company, Associate Sound Designer for The Chance Theater, Lighting Designer for Institute of New Dance & Cultures since 1999, and recently a Co-founder for RIDGE Integrated Systems RIDGEiSYS.com an interactive design company which Dave is the Director of R&D. Sound engineer for President Bill Clinton address on Science and Technology. Dave is also a member of USITT. [top]

This is David's first time doing projection designs for any show and his first time designing any show here at the Chance. He would like to thank Lowe Taylor and Bob Simpson (both Chance company members) for helping him create the Adam and Eve portraits. David is a videographer by day and an actor the rest of the time. He has appeared here at the Chance in A Christmas Story and The Lying Kind. He is currently performing in Noises Off at the Maverick Theater until February 24th. [top]

Tim Murphy is very excited about working at the Chance for his first time. Tim is a technical theater major, and currently in his second year. Stage managing is one of many aspects of theater that Tim enjoys, but his heart hangs with the lights. Tim would like to thank his parents, sister, and friends for always pushing him. [top]

 

  Lisa C. Zaradich (Light Board Operator)

As a performer, Lisa is always appreciative of the work that goes on behind the scenes to make each show look its best. Returning to the technical side, as a light board operator, surely reinforces that appreciation, especially for her fellow CT Company members who make the "off-stage" magic happen all the time. Lisa's non-performer CT credits include stage managing Molly Sweeney, musically directing The Mikado, and operating lights for Spring's Awakening and Dead White Males. [top]

A.J. is thrilled to be returning to The Chance for another wonderful production. Past credits include the So Cal Regional premiere and the "OC Weekly" Winner of Best Musical, Urinetown (Billy Boy Bill), and Sordid Lives (Earl "Brother Boy" Ingram), for which he earned the 2005 Cappie Award for Best Comic Actor in a Play. Erika is a proud founding and company member of the Chance. Most recently seen as Cinderella in the Chance production of Into the Woods (BSW Critic's Pick) and A Grand Night for Singing (Curtis Theater) she is excited be back on stage in this charming production.
