The Angelina Project

By Frank Canino
Directed By Darryl Hovis

There is no such thing as the past being over. It keeps happening again and again… right here and now.

A young mother who kills her husband… a woman caught in an abusive relationship… a dysfunctional family. But it is much more than that. It is really about coming to terms with your own circumstances and accepting yourself and others, faults and all. It is about making the stronger choice despite the repercussions.

A troubled wife and mother, Amelia Covello, is back at university after 20 years with no support from most of her family, including her mother, Roffaella. Desperately trying to finish her thesis on the justice system’s treatment of women, Amelia decides to focus her research on the case of Angelina Napolitano, an immigrant who axed her abusive husband to death 2 generations ago. In reliving Angelina’s trial, Amelia discovers similarities between the state of women then and now. A thrilling drama about mothers and daughters and the cycle of abusive relationships.

Amelia’s story is not about abuse or violence, but about the choices one is forced to make when faced with incredible odds, when one’s life seems to be falling apart. We should all face our own demons. We can only hope we are strong enough to break the cycle.
